Program Abstract

This module will advise fire investigators on how to approach the fact-finding procedures necessary to determine, document and validate a hypothesis. You may think you have a clear-cut case, until a colleague or attorney asks "How do you know that?" and then it's obvious that a logical explanation of how and when you suspect a fire originated is not enough to make your case. Whether it's arson or not, your evidence is going to have to be validated. Even more importantly, going through a thorough validation process may actually end up disproving your original theory! In this module you will learn how to navigate the complex world of resources that are available to investigators.
